Wacko Jacko
Soon everyone was talking about
the oxygen machine, but there were stranger stories to come. When he was a
child in the 1800s , Merrick had a terrible illness which changed his
appearance. People paid to see him at funfairs and he led a very sad life.
Perhaps there was some truth in
this, but it was soon clear that nobody could control all the stories about the
singer. The British newspaper new name for the singer was ‘ Wacko Jacko ‘ , and
stories about ‘ Wacko Jacko ‘ sold newspapers. Some of these stories were true- there were many
unusual things about Michael ‘ s life- but a lot of them were not.
In one story, the chimpanzee was
Michael’ s best friend , in another, Michael was trying to speak animal language
to his friend. A chimpanzee may not be an ordinary pet, but Michael kept many
unusual animals, most of the strange stories about Bubbles just weren’t true.
